The Four Reasons That Compel People to Start a Home Based Business

0saves

There are many reasons that people start a home based business, they are usually very specific and personal factors. However, much of the time the motivations can be divided up into a few main themes. By understanding these 4 main issues you can do a better job of providing people specific answers that solve their very personal and individual issue.

1. The need to earn more money. Every one of us has bills to pay and sometimes it’s as basic as the bottom line. Many people are not earning enough money every month to pay and fund all their needs. Sometimes it might be a purchase they want to make and just don’t have the money, other times hours may have been cut and the situation is dire and something needs to be done quickly. By listening to the money reasons you can offer a particular solution to get that fishing boat, or to help them fund baby Billy and little Mary’s college fund.

2. Tick-tock…time. Some people earn plenty of money, but are they happy spending 60 or 70 hours a week to do it? You can show them a way to work smarter so they can go to the park with their children, or be there for the family dinner every evening instead of working more overtime. We all have the same 24 hours in a day and we choose how we spend them, it’s a valuable commodity that we never get back so listen for this complaint and specifically address the solution.

3. A desire for security. It used to be that the safe and secure life was the one where you got a good degree and went to work for a big company for 30 years with a nice pension and a great retirement to look forward to, those days are gone. For the past 20 years people have been switching jobs more often and with the recent economic downturn companies are slashing the bottom line and that means jobs. There is little loyalty and we all feel that more than ever. When people talk about these issues guide them into the possibilities of your business and how it can provide the additional security that they want.

4. People want to be the master of their own life, they want to make their own choices. It’s a God given instinct to provide for yourself and live your own destiny, you are the boss of you. Some people today don’t like their boss, or they just think that what they provide their employers is worth much more than they receive in pay or in respect. Being your own boss is a liberating and exciting prospect and you need to show that to those who need more choices in their life.

Most of the time the needs people have will fit in to these 4 areas and it’s your responsibility to show how you can solve their problem in a very personal way with a business that works. People care about what’s in it for them, they don’t care about features but real problem solving benefits personalized for them.
